MAMMOTH WASH
(IMPERIAL SAND DUNES)
April 16-18, 2004
It’s time for the spring outing to Mammoth Wash. With a little luck, Ma Nature will cooperate with good weather before the summer heat sets in. Mammoth Wash is at the northernmost part of the Imperial San Dunes, which is most famous for Glamis.
This is primitive camping so you need to be totally self-contained. Bring your trailer or tent & porta-pottie.
Monitor the weather carefully. Early spring can be quite unpredictable. Even if the days are warm, the nights can still get on the cool side.
For those who monitor their CB, use Channel 37 for ABC communications or cell phones if you are still able to get a signal.
For emergencies, dial 9-1-1. Imperial County Sheriff is (800) 452-2051. BLM dispatch is (760) 383-5652. El Centro Regional Medical Center is (760) 339-7100.
To get there take 60 Fwy/I-10 east to 111/86 south. Stay on 111 after the highways split. Best place to top off your gas tank(s) is at the ARCO near the split. Continue along the Salton Sea to Niland. Turn on Weiss Rd. to second Canal. Turn right for approximately ½ mile to Mammoth Wash. An updated California map will show the newer road extensions that have changed in the last couple of years.
Please R.S.V.P. to Rick Bartelme so that we know whom to expect.
